As Good As It Gets 2 - Just Like the Jing

Last week the burning (of something) at the Palm Oil plantations in Indonesia (the usual scapegoats) caused Beijing like "haze" in KL. That's gotta be one big-ass bonfire to smoke out the whole city. No blue skies for several days.

As Good As It Gets

To my friends here, I'm a bit of a Chinese food snob. Malaysian Chinese food is just not the same as what I could get in Beijing. I've finally found a place almost as good as what I'm used to. The Crystal Jade on Jln Sultan Ismail was okay, but Dragon-i in the food court is the taste-test winner. While it is more expensive than what I would pay in the Jing, the taste is just as good (mostly). Some photos illustrate my love of cubed chicken dishes.

Tennessee Dave and the Sidewalks of Doom

Another not-so-endearing characteristic of KL we will NOT miss are the sidewalks of doom. First off, the curbs are a foot off the ground to try to dissuade the scooters from riding on them. It is not always successful, but it is always inaccessible to wheelchairs and strollers. Then there are the endless open (or poorly covered) drainage pits. Sometimes pavement over drainage pipes also collapse.

Extra Feature Below - That's a 5-6 foot drop-off to the left and those metal screws jut out of the ground every couple of feet.

Step Up 2 The Streets KL Style

So Friday and Saturday nights, the corner of Jalan Sultan Ismail and Jalan Bukit Bintang turn into impromptu danceoffs. Sometimes they have boom-boxes and sometimes they just do this:

KL Hotel for Dogs

There used to be a lot of wild dogs in the vacant lot behind our apartment. Now that the vacant lot has been turned into a major construction site, we've wondered what happened to all the dogs. We've found them. They've moved to another abandoned house nearby.

Luke Loses Another Tooth

They're starting to drop like flies. At least we were able to keep this one. Hopefully he'll start losing from the top soon.

Would You Buy Milk From This Man?

Goat's milk, actually. From an urn on the back of his scooter.

Claire Turns 4, Luke Has a Party.

Oh, the inequity. Claire actually has a birthday, but only a family party. She didn't go to any of the sub-standard preschools here, so she hasn't met any kids her age during our time here. Luke turns 6 this summer, but we will be between countries. So we had his party before school let out.
